SoloLearn is a startup offering free apps that help users learn programming through short lessons, code challenges, and quizzes. The product needed a visual update and a consistent design across Web, Android, and iOS platforms.

PROBLEM

The existing icons did not effectively convey their intended actions, making it difficult for users to navigate the interface. Additionally, some icons were reused for different functions, causing confusion and inconsistency in the user experience.

GOAL

Develop a structured iconography system with clear visual distinctions to enhance usability and comprehension. Establish a design system with defined hierarchy and guidelines to ensure consistency across all platforms.

SOLUTION

To address these challenges, I developed a comprehensive iconography system that introduced a clear hierarchy and categorization. A scalable grid system was implemented to maintain consistency across various screen sizes, ensuring adaptability without losing visual integrity. A/B testing and qualitative usability research played a key role in refining the designs based on real user feedback.

OUTCOME

The redesigned icons improved user engagement by making navigation more intuitive, reducing misclicks and confusion. Task completion times within learning modules decreased, and the structured design system facilitated smoother collaboration between designers and developers. This project not only enhanced SoloLearn’s user experience but also established a scalable framework for future design improvements.
